There are several ways to find volunteer work in your area.

1. You can ask friends or family members if they are currently involved with any volunteer work and ask them for information or suggestions.
2. Check out volunteer websites such as Volunteermatch.com to help locate specific volunteer work in your area. You can search by location, organization
or by interests such as working with animals, children or the elderly.
3. Check your local papers as they often list local organizations that are looking for volunteers.

Once you find a place to volunteer, call and signup for dates and times to do volunteer work. Based on the organizations needs, they might need you to learn a skill such as basic CPR or they might need to run a background check on you. To become a good volunteer keep the following in mind.

1. Be on time and be willing to help in any capacity.
2. Keep a log or diary of your volunteer work. It can come in handy when looking for other work and is nice to add to your resume.
3. Choose to volunteer for something that is important to you. It will make your volunteer experience more enjoyable and make you a better volunteer.
