Purchase your guitar:
  1. Pick one that feels right to you.( Don't worry about what you think is cool.)
  2. Go into a music store and look around and try many guitars out.

Learning the Basics:
  1. Learn how to properly hold the guitar and get comfortable doing it.
  2. Get acquainted with the strings and what their names are.
  3. Practice strumming the guitar without fingering any strings.

Learning the Chords:
  1. Use a manual (or the internet) to see how to finger some basic chords. (Some examples are A, C, D, E, and G)
  2. Practice fingering the chords and making sure the chords ring true when you strum.
  3. Memorize the chords.
  4. Practice switching between the chords fluidly.

Practice, Practice, Practice:
  1. Practicing a little bit each day is better than practicing a ton only one or two times a week. Make sure to try and play every night and eventually you'll be a pro.
  2. After you've learned the simple chords, advance to the minors and tougher chords.
